Demand Response for Fleet Depots

Energy Providers

Fleet Depots That Respond to the Grid

For utilities and program operators with fleet customers: depots managed by SmartCharge can lower or shift their charging load when the grid needs it, without stranding the vehicles that have to leave.

Three Kinds of Grid Signal

A managed depot accepts these instructions and plans its charging around them.

Import caps

Ask a depot, or one part of it, to stay at or below a kW level for a window of time.

Price adders

Add to the energy price for a window, or subtract from it, and SmartCharge plans charging around the new price.

Demand terms

Put a $/kW charge on the peak inside a window, for example to keep load off the network peak.

A Response You Can Count On

Demand response only works if the load actually moves, and if the fleet still runs.

+

OpenADR compatible

SmartCharge is OpenADR compatible, so managed depots can take part in utility demand-response programs.

+

Signals only reduce load

A grid signal can only lower a depot's draw. It never overrides the electrical limits that keep the site safe.

+

Firm events held at the charger

A firm event in the next 24 hours is written into the chargers' own profiles, so it holds even through a cloud or network outage.

+

Critical vehicles protected

The fleet chooses which vehicles keep charging through an event. When one of them must, the depot reports a partial response with the reason.

Visibility for the Program

Each depot reports what it is doing and what it could do.

Event status

Each event is reported back as scheduled, active, partial, declined, completed or cancelled, with reasons.

Flexibility envelope

A 48-hour view in 15-minute slots of the planned, minimum and maximum load the depot can take.

Interval data

15-minute energy and peak per part of the depot, for prediction and explanation.

Flexible fleet load, without missed routes.
